The Dress Project

Because of some unfortunate circumstances last Friday involving a science experiment gone horribly awry [or car problems, you choose], for my final week of school I had 2 small bags and one box of clothes to get me through the week.  What did that box contain? Dresses. A dozen dresses.  Naturally, I decided to take it as a challenge... could I make it through the week wearing a dress every day?  Well let's see....

Saturday:

I dressed for the river, ended up at a prairie, and was later invited to go cliffjumping, so I wanted to wear a fun summery dress.  Wore denim shorts under it so I just took the dress off for swimming and wore shorts and the tank top.

Sunday:

I wore my Monet dress, the one I bought for Easter.  Ran lyrics at church, ate lunch, and had a splendidly lazy afternoon.

Monday:

I cheated a bit and wore grey jeans under this one because it was a little short to wear to class by itself.  This is probably my new favorite dress!  My roommate forgot to hide the scissors, so I also sported some self-chopped bangs.  I ended up changing into shorts for the bye bash, but wore this to my last day of classes and to lifegroup.

Tuesday:

It's a personal tradition of mine to dress up for the first day of finals.  I changed last-minute and ended up wearing this lacy 1920's-esque dress!

Wednesday:

Nothing special, I wear this dress a lot, and was in enough of a hurry to not do anything to my hair.  8am finals will do that to ya!

Thursday:

I wore this dress over shorts and a tee shirt on my last day in Bolivar.  I ended the year with a second clifflumping excursion at Stockton lake!  Ended up driving back to KC soaking wet, still in the clothes I went swimming in, but it was worth it!  Had a great end to a great year, even if it involved cheating a tiny bit on the dress thing.

And there you have it: a detailed description of my wardrobe for almost an entire week!  I sure hope this was enjoyable!  Next week: "What I ate for lunch every day for a week"
[actually, I just found out my cousin has gone into labor, so my next post may very well include baby pictures! squeeee!]

Today involved a broken car and an awesome concert...

Scattered around were naps, midnight wal-mart runs, and the sort of messy dinner conversation that uses Disney princesses to segue from an overly amusing menopause discussion to an overly serious Calvinism discussion.

I also happened across a pair of students who were rollerblading/skateboarding down the sidewalk in dressy clothes, carrying a cake.  Sure wish I knew THAT story.

I didn't get to go to KC, but I got to see To The West Coast perform:

and I got some swag:

and then I came back to my dorm and realized just how little stuff I have left here:

Basically, dressing for this next week will be difficult.  I did think to grab a couple of bags of clothes, but I ended up with a LOT of dressy stuff.

I'm thinking this week would be a good time to try to wear a dress every day for a week.  While I didn't think to grab some jeans or a towel, I did end up with 12 dresses.

So maybe today didn't go as planned.  Regardless, God is so very good!

When I'm bored or feeling adventurous, I roam Google maps.  Sometimes I find a place nearby that looks appealing enough from the sky for me to get in my car and try to find it.  It's funny how these silly little towns can mean so much, how the curves and angles of these roads conjure up memories.  Lines equate to friends and spots of green equate to summer evenings spent lounging in a field talking about life and friendship and time travel.  It's also interesting to compare these silly little towns that mean so much.  I didn't realize the one was so much bigger, so much more city-like than the other.  Squares of concrete replace the carefree curving streets, filling in with lines and houses what the other fills in with eighteen years of memories.

What will these images mean to me in 20 years? in 50?

So I made a schedule.... Next fall I'm taking some classes I'm really excited about, and some that I'm really not (I mean, intro to computing would be bad enough by itself, now I have to be at Taylor by 7:35 tues/thurs?!).  This is the first semester I actually have to go to class on Fridays.  It's also the first semester I'll be up before chapel, and the first semester I don't have a class that goes until 4:15.  In other words, I'm buying an espresso machine.

I'll also be spending a lot of time in Taylor.  I don't mind, it is where I'll be spending most of my college career as it is, but it does lead to a few questions..... How much can I get away with?  Should I buy a lazyboy, or will some beanbags be enough?  Should I camp out upstairs, near the history department, so between classes I can make friends with the people who will be grading most of my papers for the next 3 years, or downstairs where I'd have a good view of the business department, whose male students frequently wear suits? And finally, if I have to be there by 7:35 some mornings, should I just consider living there permanently?  Heaven knows it'd be more convenient than having to walk all the way from Leslie, and I'm sure no one would mind.....

On another note, did you notice how I colour-coded my schedule by building?  Taylor is purple because purple is the best color and Taylor is the best building.. and because I knew I'd be seeing the most of it.  Redford is blue because blue is next to purple in the rainbow, and Redford is next to Taylor.  Chapel is orange because I only had 2 really workable colors left.  Jester is red.... on the record, because that's where I'm taking Chinese and red is China's color, and also because it's the farthest on the rainbow, but off the record, because Jester is the devil and it makes me mad and I wish I didn't have to hike down there.  I have nothing against any of the departments in Jester... I just had some bad experiences there last semester. bad. experiences.

Well then.  There's a peep into my madness.  Have fun psychology majors!

[I say psychology majors because if anyone ever reads this insanity, it's more likely to be a college student than an actual psychologist, unless someone gets concerned enough to take this to an actual psychologist, in which case, sorry.]
